Riff Raff Sanctuary
Our History
Riff Raff Sanctuary is a nonprofit animal sanctuary caring for the unwanted and hard to place since 2020.
Originally founded as a rural South Carolina rescue in 2020, our work began with rehabilitating dogs, cats and the occasional horse. Over time we learned many of the senior or special need animals coming to us couldn't handle another transition. Instead they needed permanence. Following our relocation to Mississippi in 2025, we restructured into a limited sanctuary model to provide exactly that.
Today we provide both adoption opportunities and lifetime placement for canines and equines. Many animals still move on to homes but those who cannot be responsibly adopted out remain as permanent residents.
We operate with fixed capacity so every animal keeps their place and receives consistent care. Rehabilitation intake is limited and accepted by surrender or animal control seizure when appropriate, allowing us to remain a safety net while still prioritizing long term welfare over volume.
Our Logo
Our logo isn’t just a design... it’s a reflection of who we are. The mules featured are Riff and Raff, both permanent sanctuary residents. They represent the heart of this rescue: the misfits, the complicated cases, and the ones who don’t quite fit anywhere else.
Riff’s scars from an embedded halter are intentionally included, because his past is part of his story... and we don’t erase that.
Raff is here as a sanctuary placement because he isn’t suited for a traditional home. He’s incredibly smart, athletic and determined... but those traits come with extreme escape behaviors and a talent for property destruction. Rather than set him up to fail, he’s been given a place where he can live safely and be managed appropriately.
The name “Riff Raff Sanctuary” comes directly from them. It’s not negative... it’s honest. This is a place for the ones that need it most.
Our Mission
Our mission has never changed... to help the ones that others pass over. The ones that are too much, too complicated, too broken or simply inconvenient.
This work was built on the backs of the animals who came before them, the ones who taught us what it really means to show up. We honor them by making damn sure the next ones always have somewhere safe to land, no matter what past they come with.
